Fleas can live in any condition and for 2 years without food. It also doesn't matter if you're the cleanest people in the world you can still get them.

Flea collars aren't very effective and dangerous for your pet, because they tend to lick them.

My vet recommends using the Frontline drops on them.

The person who lived in the apartment before us had a dog with flea. So our cats got fleas :(

We're using the drops.

We used a fogger to clear out the house. You can get the fogger at your local pet store or probably a home depot type place because it covers other pests besides fleas. The vet recommended calling an exterminator, but they can be costly.

And we're using a natural spray we got from Petco, which is pet friendly [they can lick it with us worrying they're going to]. It's called De Dlea Pet & Bedding Spray.

It has nothing to do with how clean you, the house or the cat is - fleas like BLOOD, they have nothing to do with dirt.

Flea collars do nothing to prevent fleas, as you've now discovered. Fleas just stay away from the neck area and then they're fine; the chemical on collars does not spread through the skin.

Get some proper flea treatment from a vets, like Frontline or Revolution. Do not use store-bought flea treatments.

When I had a cat in the house I used this method:
Take a shallow pan, and fill it with water and dish washing liquid.
Leave the pan in the middle of the room at night with a flash light shining on it. The fleas will jump toward the light and end up falling in the pan.
It worked for me. I hope it helps you too :)

A safe, effective and cheap method of getting rid of fleas is to use a mixture of boric acid and salt. The powder should be sprayed on carpets, bedding and areas frequented by pets.

I work for Apartments and have to deal with this from time to time. The best way I have found is to spray and vacuum every day for 7 days and bath the cat in lemon joy dish detergent twice in that week. you will find this the best treatment ad the most reliable.
