The USA has a federal form of gov't. What does this mean? In what ways does federalism shape American politics. In other words, how is the American political system different because of this method of organizing power? Perhaps another way of looking at this is to ask, what difference do states make as separate political entities? How has this changed over time?

USA is a federal government because each state has its independent governments that are under the central government. Thus, there maybe laws that are not applicable to other states but all must abide by under one constitution.
