AN AGE TO LOVE

As I slumber beneath the net she emitted over me.
My dreams tempt my mind, as they echo love.
I toss and turn with this notion, believing it to be a hollow entity.
But still wishing these dreams to be a sign from somewhere above.

Could I in reality, fully grasp the understanding of this impression?
Might my conception mature like a good wine?
Or as I age will it get bitter and sour engulfed by depression?
As the world's evil, and the hope and faith in my soul, malignantly entwine.

Around her my selfish being heats tepid.
But could another set me on fire?
When do I know that I must stop looking and except it?
Could I bide my time with her, waiting for the one I might desire?

If we were free of earthly pain
and knew but pleasure unalloyed
could we, from then on, still sustain
a saving distance from the void?

If we knew not the tears of Man,
the struggle that so forms this life,
could we subvert the higher plan
and know no sublunary strife?

If so, then Beauty's tarnished crown
and Wisdom's crooked staff would glow;
and poets, painters all would drown
in oceans none will ever know.

My apologies for this scant offering...
