I dont need themes or plots or anything. I just need help on how to start off the essay. A topic sentence, something good to catch the readers attention. It's a book analysis.

oh, i wrote an essay on dorian gray for my summer reading assignment. it's a fantastic book.
anyways.
i think the main ideas of dorian gray are in youth, sin, and conscience. dorian's eternal youth also causes him to lack a mature conscience, thus leading him further and further into sin. but this can be simplified even further to appearances verses reality: dorian's appearance is literally separated from his reality, making this a very easy focus for a paper. should you choose to make this a main point, then you ought to begin your paper discussing this very common motif. it's especially evident in many of shakespeare's plays, such as hamlet and macbeth, if you've read those, so you might consider looking for quotes, if you need a hook for your intro. and then on to discuss the motif in general, and then introduce the book, explain the relevance, etc.
it's difficult to give advice without knowing your thesis, but i hope this helps =)

Few of us ever see ourselves honestly. While our favourite portraits are carefully selected to present us in the best possible light, and while we might scrutinise and delete images that we feel don't show us as we would like to be remembered, The Portrait of Dorian Gray strikes forcefully with its representation of the brutal honesty that can confront all of us if we were to examine our lives and ourselves honestly and without prejudice.

this is relating both: he's describing the shadow of the birds mixed with the curtains. he's relating the way that the shadows of the birds leaf by ability of the curtains, the way that they were gentle and style of silhouetted, like eastern origami or a putting eastern exhibit screen. He change into type of seeing what stated a chook by ability of the curtain. i'm hoping that this facilitates! sturdy success on your translation. :)

Oscar Wilde is famous for his wit, so start with a witty quote. My favorite is

" . . . there is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."

LitQuotes (http://www.litquotes.com/) have many quotes from this book you can use.

Good luck!
