car is a 2001 maxima and the hood is a bit damaged paint chipped how much will it cost just to do a paint job on the hood? or can i just fix them

Bring it over here to the trailer park and I'll paint it for a twelve pack. You furnish the paint and I'll provide the roller.

It could cost you up to about $400 bucks depending on the shop and how good of a job you want done. And yes, you CAN do it yourself. Just about ALL automotive shops carry little bottles of paint for just this purpose. Just sand the area GENTLY with some 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper(preferably wet). Let the area dry thoroughly before rubbing down again gently with a little bit of tack cloth and acetone. When that's dry, apply the paint lightly. It may take more than one application.

If you have a high school around your house with an autobody program you could get them to fix it for you. At my school we would fix other people's stuff (telephones, appliances, cars, etc) and then just charge them for materials (not labour). It depends on what colour of paint you are looking for though as they might not have it.

Fix it yourself? depends on the chip size.......pro job would be around 200-275
