Supposedly none of the three systems of Legistlative, Judicial and Executive branch is more important that the others- this is maintained by a system of checks and balances.
For example: In order for a law to be passed it must go through both Executive branch and Legislative Branch. The President (Executive) has the power to veto but if 2/3 of the Senate still approve the bill it
will be passed.

As has been stated elsewhere, all three branches are necessary and were designed to provide a balance of power. In some ways, the Judicial branch has sought to increase its power by essentially making law in its interpretation of the Constitution. The Executive branch has sought to increase its power by means of things like going to war without declaring a war. Only Congress can officially declare war but presidents have figured out ways to circumvent that. To answer your actual question, I would say that the Legislative branch is the most important because it is more directly representative of the people. People at the local level are most directly represented by their congressperson and there is one congressperson for roughly the same number of people in every state. At a little higher level, each state has equal representation irrespective of population size by having two Senators.

The three branches of American government were designed to function in a "checks and balances" manner to preclude the possibility of abuses of power, so no one branch of government is more important that another one. The executive branch is a bit more highly visible, but the legislative and the judicial branches make significant contributions to our general interests, too.

Actually neither of our three branches are more important. It has to do with the whole checks and balances thing. The executive branch (the President) has the most power over the troops being the Commander-in-Chief though!

theoretically none is more important because they can veto (stop) one anothers decisions, but everyone knows the judicial branch has the weakest power, because its members aren't voted in and its decisions are occassionally ignored.
between executive and legislative, i'd say theyre pretty equal but if you had to i'd choose legislative because they represent america better and make the actual laws and bills.

idealistically none should be but i think the legislature has the most power....they can impeach a president....alter the constitution, over ride a presidents veto....there is always a way for the legislature to work around one of the "checks or balances" however the legislature is so divided among the parties that these thing usualy dont happen
