i have a toyota altezza auotmatic while driving my car yesterday i noticed a weird sound like when you drvie a manual and your in gear one trying to go fsater without changing it to gear two a sound like that occured it freaked me out coz i was on the motorway, then i noticed while i was in drive mode the gear also was on "L" im not sure what L stands for but both drive and L was on and making that noise....this only happens occasionally does anyone know whats wrong with my car and what i need to do??

somthing in the electronics is wrong with your transmission. when this happens it goes into what they call limp home mode and willnot shift because doing so might casue more damage to the transmission. take it to a shop and have the codes read and conections looked at, some times they just get corroded and need cleaning to make contact.

sounds like a problem with the shifter linkage, L stands for Low gear(first gear)

An automatic transmission works off of hydraulic power. I HATE automatics! They are more problematic than a manual transmission when it comes to working on them. Take it to the dealer or a good transmission shop. This isn't one I know from personal experience. Sorry.

"L" means "low gear" - it's the same as 1st gear. You're just revving the engine too hard. Always use drive or overdrive.

You need to drive it in "R" for a while. "R" stands for repair.

well my expertise in this area would say the problem is...u own a toyota...lol j/k but anyways i just had to say that...i know bad answer....
