When my daughter was your son's age, she had the same problem, and has a mild case of eczema. We live where winter is very drying here. Anyway, back to your question.
What her pediatrician suggested was after bathing her, PAT her dry and rub new, fresh Crisco in the shortening form in those large canisters. (Yes, Crisco! Ooh, I know). Cost less than expensive lotions. Then put on a cotton union suit, (long underwear), and then those sleeper pjs with the little feeties on your baby.
The warmth from you baby will help deep moisturize and get absorbed by you baby's skin.
I know it seems so undesirable to do, but it helped my daughter's skin immensely. It doesn't smell weird or anything. You use fresh, new, regular Crisco shortening. The fat content is very moisturizing.
Good luck!

All of my kids have this same problem. Actually bathing every other day or even every three days does help a lot BUT I know kids get raunchy so. As soon as he gets out of the tub seriously coat him with the baby oil gel all over rub in in and leave him a little shiny too it'll absorb. If he has really dry (rashy) spots try aveeno lotion/vaseline/or bag balm (it's in a green tin can and is actually used for dairy cows but I swear it's a dermatological cure all!-get it at a feed store). Wind will make him more dry and so will heaters/winter weather, having a humidifier in his room may help some too.

Everyone's skin gets drier in the winter time and may itch. The doctor is right. Babies do not need baths every day. He is not rolling around in the dirt and everything, so you could give him one every other day if you choose to. This is only going to help him and not dry his skin out like right now. And just keep lathering on the lotion! Try different kinds too, non-scented ones work the best. Get a medicated one.

Don't bath your baby everyday, that does dry their skin out really bad. Cut back to every other day and keep his bottom clean with wipes. Lots of baby lotion and even Vaseline right after the bath (and all day long) will help a bunch! My docs advice was to grease my baby up like a little pig. lol.

Aveno baby lotion is the best.
My daughter had the same problem and i put it on her every chance i got and it really helped. l gave her a bath everyday, but my doctor said you have about a 2 minute window to mix the lotion in with the left over water after patting dry. If you wait to long the water dries them out. I also made sure she slept in long pjs so she couldn't scratch in her sleep. I also used the chetiply soap. She eventually grew out of the ecexama/dry sick problem. But it took about 3 years

Cetaphil moisturizing wash and the Cetaphil lotion also. My kids all had excema as little ones and I used this. The wash cleans them but it isn't really a soap...more of a creamy wash. It works well though. You still have to use shampoo though because it isn't made to wash hair. The Cetaphil lotion is in a tub. Both are great! I used the hydrocortisone cream very sparingly when the little patches of excema just wouldn't get better. I used the lotion though about 4 times a day all over them.

Try aloe vera lotion. Usually aloe heals alot of things so maybe it will take away the dry skin. It is true about not bathing him everyday. It sucks because it feels like you should..but really what do babies do to get so dirty? They are actually pretty clean. It should go away sooner or later...hang in there. Good luck!

Bathing him every day is fine, but don't use soap. You can use a bit of gentle baby wash on his diaper area if you feel the need, but otherwise, just rinse him. After his bath, but before you dry him off, put a little bit of baby oil on his wet skin, then pat him dry.

I bathed twice each week with soap and the other days with just water (she LOVED the bath and it relaxed her). when she got older (and messier) we bathed every day.
I use:
Eucerin Calming cream every other day
Johson/Johnson creamy baby oil every other day
and Aquaphor for any dry patches
works like a charm. My daughter had some nutrition deficit issues caused by severe reflux and her skin was bad for a little while.......the regimine worked great. and I love the smell of the creamy oil.
