So my dad is 61 and has type 2 diabetes along with high blood pressure. He takes meds for the blood pressure. At times he wakes up with a heartrate ranging from 100-130. This rate lasts from 15-90 minutes then it will cool down to 90. His bpm are usually over 75 all day. He is 5'8 200lbs. caucasian, somewhat active (walks a lot, thats about it). Any ideas on what may cause this or any remedies for his problem? Thanks a lot for the input.

He really needs to tell all this to his doctor. A heart rate that fast is not normal, even for a diabetic. Is his sugar under good control? He probably needs to have his meds adjusted. This high a pulse could really harm him, so he has to talk to his doctor about it ASAP. The doctor will want to know; don't let him procrastinate.

Good luck -- but there's not much anyone can do for him without a thorough examination and some tests. See that he gets those things without delay.
