you can use pads for the first couple of times you get your period until you get the hang of tampons :)

there should be directions in the tampon box. sometimes it helps to squat or put one leg up on the toilet seat when trying to put the tampon in. and you haveto kind of angle the tampon to the left.

The box comes with an instruction leaflet and I am guessing that you have tried following the diagrams, found it too uncomfortable to be right and decided that you have misunderstood something. There is a popular belief that all girls are comfortable with tampons right from their first or second period but this is what is misleading...many young women are not comfortable with them for several years after the first period, in which case they have to use pads or else suffer the discomfort.
I would suggest that you go on with pads for a few months and then try again, if you want to, with the tampons..if you still have problems with them then see your school nurse, this is the one area of your education that she is there to help you with..or else a nurse in your family doctor's office. There is nothing abnormal about not being able to use tampons easily at first, even the very slender ones, so don't let it worry you or get you down; they are designed to fit the " average" girl, or woman, depending upon the size..and the trouble with that is that no one is actually "average".

Wow, some of you people are really rude and ignorant.

You are young, and I am sure it's frustrating, especially with these answers. At that age, I had to use pads because I couldn't figure out how to put a tampon in either. So, don't feel bad. I couldn't wear tampons until after I started having sex. You could talk to your mom like other people said, or just stick with pads for now. Don't worry about it though!

Relax! Try not to worry about inserting the tampon right the first time. If you are tense it will make insertion harder.
The best time to practice inserting a tampon is during the heavy part of your period. The tampon should glide inside your vagina easily without any discomfort.
Decide if you prefer to insert the tampon standing or sitting. If sitting is your preference, sit on the toilet. If you want to try standing, putting one foot on the bathtub helps.
Hold the tampon applicator in your right hand if you are right-handed, or left if left-handed.
Use your thumb and middle finger to hold the bottom of the larger, outer tube.
Point the tip of the applicator toward your vagina, facing slightly towards the back. The smaller tube should be pointed away from your body.
Use your other hand to open your vagina.
Place the tip of the applicator at the opening of your vagina.
Gently push the smaller end of the applicator in until it is completely inside the larger outer tube. This pushes the tampon into your vagina and out of the tube.
With your thumb and middle finger still on the outer tube, release the smaller tube and let the strings dangle freely.
Gently pull the two tubes out together.
Dispose of the applicator according to the manufactuer's instructions.
When you are ready to remove the tampon, gently pull the withdrawl strings down and forward. The used tampon may be flushed down the toilet.

It is better to ask you mother. But, to help you out, you have two...let's call them "holes" in your vagina. The urethra is where the urine comes out. You don't put it there because you have to pee sometime. The urethra is near the front of the vagina. The next one a little further back is the entrance to the vaginal cavity. This is where you insert the tampon, Just take the tampon and feel around down there. It should slide in when you find it. Then grasp the tampon in the middle with your thumb and middle finger and insert until your fingers touch your body. Then, use the first finger to push the smaller tube into the larger tube, which pushes the tampon in. Read the directions that come in the package if you need more help. It should have pictures in it.

ok honey you sound really desperate and i know just how it feels to be in your position !! Well when you get a packet of tampons there are usually directions on a piece of paper (thats how i learnt) but if you cant understand them ask your mum.... Some things may go wrong like maybe it will hurt you and if it does a good thing to do is apply some vaseline to the tampon and insert..... and most importantly wash your hands before and after you remove or insert a tampon ..... If you have any other concerns go to : www.libragirl.com.au it has a lot of good tips and also the best advice for girls like you ..... but what ever you do dont ask dad for advice lol good luck honey xoxox

I'm just a dumb guy. But a girlfriend told me that tampons had infection risks if you don't have the right absorbancy. Also, tampons are not suitable for girls with intact hymens. But your mother should fill you in. Next best would be to see your school nurse. Most city hospitals also have a degree of advice available from tell-a-nurse programs. For the ones unsympathetic to your question, they are simply moronic jerks.

Some people are being quite mean and irrational ....
Hunny go to ur mom or some female figure that you know can help you, don't be embarressed its totally normal..
Explaining it is a little hard...
Sit above the toilet andsquat....there's 2 holes..a pee hole(which is tiny), and another hole(which is the vagina hole)...its located closed to the butt....underneath that flappy thing inbetween the lips.
Slowly put the tampon in u..make sure u took the plastic thing off, because my friends accidentally put the hole thing in her lol..ouch..
Like I said its hard to explain..u need someone to show u in person.
Here' one link with a diagram.
http://www.righthealth.com/Health/tampon_insertion/-od-definition_wiki_Tampon-s
The box ur tampon came in should also explain how to use it.
I personally lke pads better though. Only use tampons when it gets a little heavier, because of toxic syndrome. Goodluck!

if this is your first period, its best that you use pads first instead of tampons, however if you are taking a gym class and you are in swim unit, using a tampon will be necessary. You insert it into the vagina. Inside the tampon box there are a set of instructions on a piece of folded paper that you should use to ensure the tampon is inserted correctly. Good luck.

There is a very informative instruction booklet that comes with every box of tampons and it will tell you exactly how to insert a tampon.
