The PBS special on insomnia found that a person falls asleep faster if their hands and feet are warm, that their body will hold off sleep till the extremeties warm up, then let you doze off.

I find it easier to sleep if I take a hot shower right before bed anyway, or do the dishes right before.

Exercise is one way. Aromatherapy is a good way. I have Lavender candles that i burn when i cannot relax after a long day at school and work. Lavender has been known for its calming effect. If you feel comfortable with the idea, burn those candles while taking a hot bath. I am not sure if you are a big tea drinker, however i highly recommend drinking Chamomile tea WITHOUT SUGAR. Its not a sedative, so it wont make you drop dead into sleep. Its a soother, and helps ease and relax the body. Hopefully This helps.

-exercise
-taking a warm bath (a slight drop in body temperature helps you fall asleep better)
-listening to nature and ocean sounds ( I read an article a while back that tested and proved that people slept better at the sound of rain)
-make sure your bed's nice and comfy.
-find your perfect pillow
-aromatherapy
-clear your mind
-eating tuna, halibut, pumpkin, artichokes, avocados, almonds, eggs, bok choy, peaches, walnuts, apricots, oats, asparagus, potatoes, buckwheat, and bananas help promote sleep
-try to avoid prescription and over-the-counter medications cold remedies, diuretics, stimulants, weight loss products and nicotine
-alcohol also helps but it really isn't recommended.

Hope this helps! Good Luck.

You could get one of the cds that help you fall asleep. Like nature cds. It's really helpful. Also, try to just forget everything you did that day. One of the main reasons people can't fall asleep is because their mind is racing on everything they did that day. So, try counting sheep. I hope this helps!
