No, of course not. Then we'd have half a million people enrolled at Harvard and very few people at the state schools - which are often very good schools in their own right. People need to realize that you don't have to go to the big name schools to get an excellent education and a great job.

And as for 'allowed to graduate high school' - anyone can graduate if they put in the work. Hell, just showing up these days usually means you get a degree. There's no way to make it easier, but plenty of reasons to make it more difficult. Many students leaving high school, even with good grades and near the top of their class, are woefully unprepared for college level work.

No. But I think it's important that every qualified student in America be given the chance to attend a good college.

Let's face it, America is full of stupid, lazy students who don't actually study. But there are are a number of people who are smart, ambitious and capable. These are the people (of all ethnic and economic backgrounds) who should be rewarded, because they will value their education, and do their best to learn and grow.

The future of America depends on qualified individuals of every generation. It is in the most important interests of the country to educate those qualified to lead and pioneer. The State should pick up the cost, because it is so minuscule in comparison to the dividends it will pay off for the future of the country.

No! Matching the student and aptitude to the proper college is very important.
Someone who got through high school with c's and has no idea what he wants to major in would be best servied by a local community college. Someone with a's, a perfect SAT, lots of extracirricular activites and glowing recommendations would be an ideal candidate for Duke or yale.Rember, our high schools are turning out people, not carbon copies.
Also, bear in mind, colleges have so much space. youkmnow what happens if a college hasd space for 1000 freshman and 2000 decide to apply? 1000 are disappointed. it's the numbers game.

No.

I think every student should be allowed to go to SOME college -- but not any one that they choose. Allowing anyone into ANY university would dilute the value of a degree from that school -- unless the schools made it impossible for bad students to graduate.

Yes they have the oppurtunity to graduate from High School, if they follow the school guidelines.

And no they shouldnt be able to go to the college they chose.

Why? Most people would pick them same colleges, i.e. Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc. Those colleges could not maintain their curriculum for all those schools. Not to mention you earn what you get. GPA, SAT scores etc help assist you or hurt you when getting into a college.

Absolutely not. Not every high school graduate is equipped to succeed at the higher level institutions. Your proposal would result in massive failure and attrition rates and tons of money wasted. Students that choose to go to college should attend one at which they can excel, which may not necessarily be the one that would have chosen.

I dont understand, you cant just go to any college you choose. The important thing is to do well in college. It doesnt have to be the best IVY league school. Also to pick a major that there is a demand for.

NO WAY. Some people are not cut out for all schools. That's why there is an admissions process. It's just a fact that some people are smarter than others/ some people are more motivated than others.

I don't think that would be a good thing. The reason college applications are so tedious is because they want to weed out the lazyasses. College is hard and it's not for everyone.

you can go to any college you choose. the only thing that holding you back is your grades and SAT scores. you have to be qualified to attend the college if your not then your out of luck. Also finical needs can hold you back from the college but then if you look at it as you wanted a fur coat but couldn't afford to buy it. then you don't buy it. College is a business.
