I recently installed Windows XP on my computer, and I want to find a good firewall. But before I go and find a good free one, I want to know if Windows XP's firewall will protect me. I'm not concerned about outbound stuff because I don't use a credit card or anything, and if anyone found out my password for a site it wouldn't matter because I don't put personal info on them, and if I do, its normally not real. If you have any suggestions on a good free firewall, then let me know too.

Good? No. Will it protect you? To a reasonable degree, yes. You should also have a firewall on your router.

Firewalls don't protect you again spyware, trojans and other things that could steal your passwords though, they just protect you against network intrusions.

No. A true firewall will default outbound access to no. Windows firewall doesn't seem to care about outbound traffic which could be a trojan calling home.

Zone Alarm's free firewall is a good start.

No, Windows firewall is a joke. A true firewall must protect you from rogue packets incoming and your private data from leaving your pc without your permission. Windows firewall only protects you from incoming traffic.

Here is a free excellent firewall that I have used ten plus years. Zone Alarm Free Home for personal use.

Yes it is "good". There is better, though, and for free.
Windows firewall does not monitor programs, malware, etc. calling home. Third party firewalls such as Zone Alarm Free does.
Windows firewall is also more difficult to configure.

It's not too great, and not too configurable.
I've used most of the good free firewalls, and I prefer PC Tools Firewall Plus

It's total junk"! Not going to do squat for you, my advice get a firewall router or research some of the better software firewalls out there. and for god sakes don't ever install notron products.
