Many things affect people's behavior in the way they approach society in a violent manner. I blame the media for playing over and over violent acts caused by others. I feel they cause a domino effect with the extensive coverage of violent acts. Due to todays unfortunate tragedy at a Nebraska mall, I feel more violents acts of this nature could happen.

Human's instinctual animal nature is the root cause of such acts, I believe. Society, in general, tends to repress that nature, which is why everyone isn't beating everyone else up over small altercations. However, society sometimes fuels violent acts, rather than suppressing them. The way these violent acts are fueled can be attributed to one of the things you listed: Upbringing. I think that's the only one. While I do not believe violence is a learned behavior, it can either be suppressed or encouraged, depending on one's upbringing.
