Why do people like to eat it for the holidays? Is there something in fruitcake that makes people crave it during this time?

I don't get it. 8^B

beware the Christmas fruitcake...i once saw someone accidentally open one at wal-mart, and it took about 30 seconds for the EPA to send a haz-mat team into the store...cordoned off the whole store, Geiger counters beeping all over the place...they started hosing everyone down with some smelly chemical foam...it was PANDEMONIUM!!!! if you've never been stuck in the 'home decor' with a half-dozen startled housewives, foam dripping from their beehive hairdos, clutching their black velvet Elvis paintings to their outraged bosoms while their kids are still scurrying about with ornaments dangling from their mullets, screaming 'momma, kin i get some ho-hos for the ride home?', i can assure you, it's NOT a pretty sight...oh, the humanity....

Dr. G. is that you? Where you been?
Oh yeah, Fruitcake- well they make some kinds with Rum,
some are really very good, but after the Holidays most
people like to have fruitcake throwing contests. I
guess that could be good two.

Bless You. (((DR.G))) (((Bobby)))

My MIL's is the only fruitcake I'll eat. It's super sweet and she uses real fruit. Some people only use the candy fruit. Eww.
I took MIL's fruitcake to my families house last year and they all went on and on about how good it is. Obviously the key is sugar and REAL fruit. lol

Tradition in the excuse for non-drinkers to have brandy during the Christmas Holiday. The joke is there is only 100 in existence and they get re gifted.

There are fruits in a fruit cake...LOL.
I think it is the tradition and the symbol of a Christmas fruit cake, I mean people make it to signify the celebration of Christmas. It is something special to make at Christmas, yoohoo fruit cake...yummy.

Like Easter eggs, people believe that they are more tasteful than other time of the year...so go figure!
