His house in London has a plaque which describes Arnold as an American Patriot.

He is known as a patriot from a British perspective, but to Americans, he is a Notorious Traitor

Good question. He did betray his people so why call him a patriot? :)

Short answer is: Without him there probably (if not undoubtedly) never would have been anything to betray.
