How come there are so many kinds of dogs (e.g. bulldog, puppy, bloodhound, etc)? I don't find such a huge diversity in any other animals.

There are many types of dogs today because humans have been selectively breeding dogs for a very long time. The different dogs were bred for different physical characteristics. Sheep dogs were bred to be good at herding sheep. Dachshunds were bred to be able to go after rats. Dobermans were bred to be guard dogs. Grey hounds were bred to be fast. Toy poodles were bred to be small pets. We believe that all the different types of dogs today descended from the wolf or from a similar wild animal and the genetic diversity that exists today in dogs is because people have controlled which dogs reproduce.

There are plenty of examples of animals which have more diversity than dogs. Look at birds, ants, fish, reptiles, etc. The diversity here is due to millions of years of evolution, animals whose reproductive success was based on adapting to specific habitats.

I hope this helps

Because you do not find such intense artificial selection in other animals.
