Why does surface water (rivers and lakes) need to be cvonserved and kept unpolluted?

70 percent of Earth is water. About 2% of that is drinkable. We have to keep as much of that clean because water is life. All the water that ever was is still here. No more new water is ever created. Its only cycled through the water cycle. And the water cycle can only do but so much to purify water.

Because without water all life will stop being.
