With an IP address, one can narrow you down to a relatively small part of the world where the subnet is in use, provided you have a broadband connection. With dialup service, you can narrow down to an access point where you called.
From there, any further details require ISP to coorporate with the person, as username, your real name, e-mail, etc, are in their access record only. It usually requires court order to get those information out of the ISPs.

The person or webpage that has your IP address, will only know what country you are in. As for your name no. The only way any of your private information can be obtained from you IP service is through a court order for the IP to release the tapes. And you would have to commit a crime for law enforcement to obtain a warrant from a judge.

no not unless the IP is a static IP and if he can telnet into your router.
IP addresses are assigned to your computer through your internet provider, and its against the law to give out your personal information to that .
now, if your server ip address is what he gets and its a name server, he can do a dns lookup and find out your name etc if you registered your dns like that.

the most they can possibly find out by just obtaining your ip address is your relative location.
like what region of the state you live in.
a lot of people have been asking this lately. dont worry no one will find out your name or address or hack into your computer.

Yes indeed, that just happened to me recently. Chances are you have what's called a dynamic ip address. your service provider uses something called DHCP to periodically change client ip address's. A good hacker only needs your ip and they can break into your computer and see and take anything they want.

Yes you can be hacked from just your IP address and anyone stating otherwise doesnt know what there talking about. Increasing your system security can help but wont deter hackers.

Unless they have ready access to government and ISP records, they can't tell any more than your general area; country, province, state, etc.
