Hey,

It's announced that Niedermayer will disclose his return before the Ducks-Buffalo game upcoming.
Whew

What do you guys think about Selanne coming back now? Not much coverage of him recently.

Teemu Selanne has not even mentioned a comeback, so I think he will stay retired. Even if he wanted to come back I don't think Anaheim can keep him with out making some moves. With Niedermayer back the Ducks are pressed up against the salary cap and may have to send someone down to the minors (Shane Hnidy may go down) or trade someone for draft picks to stay under (Todd Marchant has been mentioned in trade rumors). Also, Niedermayer's salary will also count against next year's cap as well because he is still under the original contract he signed before he was "suspended". Anaheim can't bring back Selanne without dumping a major contract and key player.

They can't afford Selanne. According to the NHLPA, Niedermayer's return (if dated January 1st) will add almost $3.5MM to Anaheim's cap. As of today, Anaheim's cap it is $45.4MM, so that would bring them up to $48.9MM leaving them $1.4MM to sign a guy the NHLPA is pegging at $5MM a year, so unless they sign him in mid February, or a bunch of people re-work their contracts.........the money is not there for Selanne.

Bob - I know, but after the move Kariya and Selanne pulled in 2003, and the moves the NHLPA moved to close that gap, anything that Burke does (and if anybody can pull it off it's Burke) to get both Selanne and Niedermayer is going to reek.

And, I've been saying along that the two moves (Selanne and Niedermayer) were unrelated. Selanne announce prior to last year that it was probably his last year. Niedermayer didn't announce his decision until 10 months later. Niedermayer is under contract and that handcuffed the Ducks, nor was any money earmarked for him.

They told me I was crazy to pick up Niedermayer off the Free Agents list, they told me I was psycho. Well..... THEY WERE WRONG!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! >:D

I don't really care whether Selanne comes back, I think he will, but I'm not sure.

Damnit Bob, I just beat a team 9-0, and now I'm beating the #1 team in the league! It's not too late, it's not even the halfway point!!! Why aren't you doing anything about the trade I offered you?

Niedermayer now has a 4-5-6 month season and that is probably what he wanted instead of 9-10.
Smart move, still make a bundle and be fresh after 6 months off.

Mike, I think it is a little late to save that travesty you call a team, lol. Still think goalies are the key to winning?

I don't know why people always relate Selanne to Neidermayer, they are not joined at the hip, nor are they in the same situation. Selanne is an UFA, free to sign anywhere, Neidermayer is Ducks property.
People always relate it together, like they are married or something. If it were that Rob Neidermayer was not yet signed then maybe I could see a relevence but I don't get the whole connection.

The Ducks can barely afford Neidermayer right now under the salary cap. They'll probably have to get rid of Schnieder in order to bring him back. And Selanne is a UFA so he has no obligations to Anaheim.

The Ducks might be under the cap for this year with Niedermayer but they will be over for next year because of something called 'tagging room'. They can't be over on next years cap based on the contracts already alotted for next year and will need to trade some contracts really soon

The Ducks are a team of goons! Why would they want Selanne to come back? He's a skill player.

I can't see where the'd find enough cap space for both Selanne and Neidermayer.
