The best leaders are those who can lead and direct without misuse of their power. They must be able to inspire others in a direction or greater good. They must be strong enough to stand firm in decision making and leading others without an egotistical attitude. A great team leader will encourage others to brain storm and contribute to the whole. They also lead by example and intelligently. They are also good listeners. Charisma helps a team leader.

There are many qualities that define a great team leader. Some may claim that good looks and talented skills are among this list, this claim simply is not true. To be a great team leader, one must contain genuine concern, and compassion towards others. Always striving for something better. Not just stopping for good but going for the best. Being responsible is another quality that defines a great leader. These are just a few of many more that aid in defining a great leader!

A leader doesn't have to be the bravest, strongest, most charismatic guy around. Sure, it helps, and can get you where you're going... but do you really want to be there?
A CONSIDERATE person is the best team leader, who takes into account ALL the factors of the situation, and works hard to come up with multiple and varied possible solutions. A good team leader will never work alone in the sense that he carefully considers all of the skills and all the abilities and strengths of his various teammates to maximize any advantage, to spread equality and open-mindedness on all sides. He will consider every option and each outcome that could come from any one choice. He will consider those below him, and that the ends do not always justify the means. If the end is actually reached, then maybe. But that hardly seems to be the case. A good team leader takes into account that other opinions matter just as much as his own, and that you have to work hard to placate EVERYONE around you, and not just leg-up the competition to gain the best support and biggest bucks. He will play to the strengths AND weaknesses of his players, and will choose actions based on what is RIGHT. What is smart and easy or morally sound are not always the same thing. Usually never. A good team leader uses the skill of his strongest player to compensate for the deficiancies of the weakest players, strengthening chains by double-looping when nessisary, and reminding people that there is no "I" in "TEAM," unconditionally. The most important factor is the well-being of the weak and incapable. That's what the strong and capable are here for. Go Vigilante!
The best team leader is an aware, open-minded one who knows the value of opposition, morality, and just plain listening. We're all in this together, so get your head on straight! We're forgetting that sometimes the best interest is served when we back away from the shiny trophy and admit it's okay to lose sometimes, if it's the right thing to do.

I've noticed that the best leaders possess a charisma that gets others excited about joining the group and working toward the same goal together. They make their team members feel good about their role in the team and the work that they contribute. They give others the feeling that everyone is working together, and not working under or for someone else. They have the ability to inspire their team members to want to help the team and put their all into their efforts.
A great team leader also is able to recognize that the other members of the team may have good ideas. Many heads are better than one, so a great team leader must also be a good listener.
Many people think that a good leader is someone who doesn't have trouble barking out orders and bossing others around. These leaders are actually quite ineffective. They lower team morale and make people feel micromanaged and depressed about being a part of the team.

Each and every time I followed anybody the one most important quality that person had whether it was a male leader or a female leader was a positive mental attitude. If one has a positive mental attitude then all other virtues come naturally to that person.
If you find a can-do person you have found a valuable person indeed.
If it is a job to be done they get it done.
If it is a mountain to climb they go straight to the top.
If it is a child who has to be taught the difference between good and bad the positive parent teaches that child until the child is an adult. Good leaders and team leaders are products of many things but mainly a positive person team leader can be from any situation either an orphan on the streets in a bad side of town with gangs and drugs or a child of loving people who cared enough to lead a good life and show a good example.
With the right attitude comes the right wisdom and with the right wisdom comes the right gift of love for others, which is the basis for a good leader. To help others be better than they are by showing them an example of what good things can come from a positive attitude is what makes a good leader.
I just felt that this was the best answer that I could think of.
Update:
I think those Generals in World War 2 had a positive attitude.
I wonder if those who lead our young men and women in wars think maybe we are going to win this thing.
I bet they are positive in that they think and know that will win no matter what. I would much rather follow that type of person in life and in a war.

the only quality that defines a great team leader is whether or not he has followers. There have been 'great' leaders from the past and present that are both evil and relatively good, yet a great leader has the singular quality of 'being considered by the greatest amount of people as worthy of being followed' - Hitler was followed, although evil, he led. George Washington was a great leader because people followed! Any leader (regardless if you like him or not) is a leader only because he is followed. In fact, how can 1 person be a leader. There must be a group and only one can occupy the lead.
The greatest leader of all? The God-man Jesus Christ. By the way, He claims exclusive rights to being the only leader when He said, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life - no one comes to the Father but through me' Which means we are forced to decide whether or not to follow Him. He either will be followed or rejected.

A good team leader = a good mother. Mothers have a role in grooming their children's lives that supersedes any outside influence. The best team you will find is a close family. From the day children are born the care, teaching and values come from what they are taught at home. Mothers take the back seat when it comes to the success of their children. When they are infants they are given the security to feel no fear of the world, when they are a little older they start learning the social skills that will carry them through life. The importance of doing something to the best of their ability and standing behind the outcome , weather right or wrong..they will learn how to accept instruction on how to make their views better or else learn the humility of accepting a job well done. Teaching children to be kind to others, teaches them to understand and put themselves in the other guys shoes.Mothers are the leaders of the social world..if not for the care ,knowledge and discipline, the corporate leaders of today would never have the skills to deal with the people , stress, and decision making that comes into their lives every day. Ask anyone of them if their mother has had an important influence in their success and I bet you will get a resounding YES!

A great team leader is a person who invites others to join the discussion. In this way, the leader instills in the team that they are valuable and that their input will be heard and considered. So much the better if the leader chooses to simply guide the discussion and let the final product be a combination of the thoughts and ideas of all. When the process is complete, the team feels that they own the result and that they thought of the solution themselves.
It is amazing to me that most leaders in organizations use the "top down" model. I suppose the assumption is that the leader has the best ideas and that all that needs to be done is to feed them to the staff, who will dutifully carry them out. Unfortunately, when staff input is not allowed, there will inevitably be criticism and carping about the new idea, in most cases, rightfully so. Without the input from the people who actually work in the trenches, the leader cannot possibly know or understand the problems he or she will encounter.
I often think of a team as a group that meets with a constellation of ideas glinting like stars above their heads. No one person can pull all the stars from the sky, rather it takes multiple minds working together to achieve that task. The joy of this is the final product, that is a blend of ideas and thoughts, that no one person could have discovered by themselves.

a googd lead er is not just someone who makes good decesions. E.g. the P.E. teacher at a school is one of the wise and smart people in the school. He is also very stubborn and doesn't connect to the students. The students folow his directions but they all abhor him. They all know that he rules with an iron hand. Thought this may be successful, no one wants this kind of leader. The standard of a good leader is that he or she may be able to relate to the team. Though, a good musn't take no for an answer, a good leader also needs to balance his or her team. A leader makes a good connection with his team, and then he makes the team strong. Then he makes the team the best through the modivation from the love of the team and the strength from a good teacher. The Team leader,is a very hard position to be in and the team leader can't say that the team deserves better; the leader says that the team has the best team leader and therefore, the teamleader will say that he will make the team better with the profound knowledge.
A team leaders critism and orders.
A team leader with the greatest motivation will not go anywhere with out the knowledge and the abiltity to go beyond the task and procure the needed fruits to make the team strong. A good team leader needsto have the advice on the problems and questions asked at a moments notice. To progreess a team needs to clear all the fog and doubt so the team can continue. The team leader ,ust figuratively clear the fog. Thus, he opens the door to success.
