I am PLEASED to see so many of you who were quick to answer that you don't buy foreign goods. Those American dollars are being used to build a bigger and more modern Chinese military machine that may one day be used to intimidate and coerce the whole world into making comprimises on trade and other issues.
Bless all of you who seek out American goods.

Remember too that our good neighbors in Canada have the same safety and health regulations as the US so even though I didn't mention it initially, I sometimes buy "Made in Canada" goods when need arises.

I think there is no guarantee that China-made products are safe and reliable. Before the milk scandal, it was in the news that some food from China such as candies are not safe, as they contain formaldehyde - a chemical used in preserving corpse. More so, some toys from this country have high lead contents-bad for the brain! The safer way to avoid buying unsafe products is to choose those which are manufactured by reputable companies and are BFAD- and DOH-approved. However, there is a problem here. I don't understand why BFAD allowed/accepted some products to be sold here in the Philippines without checking them. Yes, apparently they did not check it because how come that they would only do the tests after the scandal arise? Although some products were already pulled out from the supermarkets, what about those that are sold out already before the pulling out? If those products have melamine, it means that many consumers' health here may be in danger now! My point is we cannot rely even to the agencies which are supposedly responsible for the food safety so I think the safest way to avoid being a victim of such carelessness is to buy only the products that, we are sure, are safe. Don't buy products that you can't even read or understand what are written in the containers, except the labels. It is wise to know the ingredients of the food before buying them. If ingredients/contents are not written, it is safer not to buy the product. There could be a guarantee that a certain product is safe and reliable if, and only if, there is a strict, fair, and honest quality check/control existing in our country. There must have an agency that aims to honestly safeguard the welfare of the consumers.

I am very concerned about the Chinese products. I try and buy all American products. sometimes it is hard too, when you are on a fixed income it is almost impossible at times to afford american products. Which I feel that the government has put us in this position.

No, because the reality is that China is starting to lose manufacturing jobs. As they grow, their costs are growing, and they are losing business to other 3rd world countries, but also to the US

True, Many buyers are realizing that the cost differential is shrinking, and the increasing problems with shipping - in terms of time, cost and logistics - is making the option of buying things in the US look a lot better. It's not major but it is growing and in a couple of years, look for a major reversal.

Not a question but ill answer?
Americans are not necessarily concerned about the quality of the product. When you go to the store to buy some disposable towels, unless you spend like your moneys on fire, your going to pick up the less expensive "generic" brand.

So I say that the U.S. is in so much debt, we wont be able to come out of it ever, unless another WWII rolls around. So spend!!! Spend like money grows from trees!!! A nation cannot exist economically on only imports.

No, I'm not concerned. Even the stuff that isn't dangerous isn't worth buying. Nothing good is made in China. I refuse to buy Chinese products for several reasons,(counterfeits, copies, low quality products, twisted government etc.) so it doesn't bother me at all that some of it could be dangerous. All it means to me, is that people wasting money on low quality products could be at risk more than just monetarily.

Im more concerned that the Chinese will all jump off a chair at the same time thus throwing the planet off axis. This could be a catastrophe.

I've always been concerned about stuff made in foreign countries that don't have rules as stringent as ours. Problem is, it isn't always obvious where stuff comes from. It really shocks me how much American stuff is made in China, you just wouldn't think of Dora the Explorer or Spongebob Squarepants as Chinese.

Just really brings to the forefront the horrible problem of outsourcing.

Yes.

They need to stat opening factories in the US..

Give people some work

And stop importing ASAP

There are so many toys in the US...Children have far too many things...cutting down won't put a dent in the toy world.

If they are more expensive, just buy less.
