They definitely aren't the best boards out there - but it is no longer the season for bargains as some resorts have opened. if you paid more than $200 I would suggest looking at clearance sales for pre-season deals (getting hard to find now) or previous year model clearance sales.
I have bought my kids Ride and K2 boards at Sports Authority during their pre-season sale for $100 - $200.
Better brands for a freeride board: Ride, K2, Burton. For a freestyle board: Forum, Lib Tech, Gnu, K2
Good Luck

I'm pretty sure almost everywhere will not hire you unless you are at least 16. Many places prefer 18 year olds, also. Legally, you cannot without a work permit. And yet, when you look at the statistics of unemployed teenagers looking for a job, there are many. And what company would choose a 14 year old over a 17 year old? Not many. Try doing chores around the house for money. Or cut your neighbors lawn.

Lamar isn't the best brand out there, but it will be okay for learning. Boards tend to get pretty beat up learning so you don't want to buy the best stuff the first time.
