Considering politics are high in attention right now, I'm wondering...if you are a liberal, what makes you support this ideology? I'm not asking as in "why would you be so stupid as to be a liberal?" I'm just asking generally and neutrally why you choose this political stance.

If you are a conservative, please do not answer or mock the liberals and liberal philosophy by saying "because they're losers" or something.

Thanks.

I am not a liberal. Having said that I believe that liberalism is the honest attempt by well meaning individuals to help people who they believe are not able to help themselves. Please notice that it is the belief of the liberals that certain individuals cannot help themselves.

Unfortunately, this results in the liberal choosing for the recipient what their life will look like, all the way from public housing and education to government jobs and workplace safety. I personally rebel at the arrogance implied in liberalism. I do not assume that I know better how anyone else should run their life.

Reality is that some people need this type of help and others don't. Liberals are willing to inconvenience or stifle those who do not need the help. Conservatives are willing to let those who do need the help fall through the cracks. Neither is particularly attractive.

Because I don't want to live in a world where people are judged by how much money they have, and I don't want to live in a world where greed and corruption and competition are considered better than cooperation. Because I don't want to live in a world where the top 1% (economically speaking) control and hoard 90% of the money and resources in this world. I do not want to live in a world where it is considered admirable to believe that we are all separate from each other, and from God, instead of the truth that we are all one. I don't want to live in a world where people think that there is not enough for everyone's basic needs to be met, and that they are going to get theirs, and if others can't get their own then screw them. I do not want to live in a world where selfishness and greed is rewarded, and kindness is looked upon as weakness. I do not want to live in a world where people think that money and position and power, somehow makes them better than those who have little money or position or power. I do not want to live in a world where the strong exploit the weak, and help to make them even weaker. I could go on and on, but if you have any interest in understanding what a truly evolved society looks like, you can find an excellent discription in Neale Donald Walsch's first three books...Conversations with God, volumns 1, 2, and 3.

Liberals are liberals, because we want to change these things, that we know to be wrong. Conservatives want to maintain the status quo, whether it works or not, and it clearly does not, because if it did, we would not be in the mess we are in, and the government would not be so corrupt. Absolute power corrupts, Absolutely!!!!! *sm*

Thanks for asking a civil and intelligent question.

I am in many ways a Libertarian, but I strongly believe that there are a certain number, a rather small percentage, of Americans who are absolutely incapable of taking care of themselves. They are not intelligent enough, or too sick, or too old, or too mentally ill. They have no relatives or they have been abandoned by their relative, or their relatives lack the resources to help them.

These people must be cared for by society, and private chairities are not making it. The food banks are running out of food.

I am a liberal because I believe in and support the advances made in human rights over the past one and one-half centuries--towards greater equality and opportunity.

I am a liberal because as a moral person, I take pleasure in maximizing the good for all.

I am a liberal because I am a Christian, and as a Christian I believe that we are called upon to work for peace and justice.

I'm liberal because I like the element of possibilities. I can think for myself. I know right from wrong and I don't need advice there. I believe in collective engagement for the greater good that benefits the greater number. Efficiency, responsibility and good judgment. Everything evolves. Nothing stays the same. "Compassionate conservatism" are empty words if you can't show proof of deeds. "Ownership Society" only applies to the wealthy elite...because the rest of us are on our own...

I am 46, have worked at least one job everyday since 16, I voted as a staunch republican for over 20 yrs....the thing that turned me into a liberal was when the republican party became more and more heartless towards people....... so I guess I evolved into a liberal, opened my eyes and found out much of what I had believed about the poor was wrong.

Well I was a liberal several years ago. I will give you an honest look into my psyche during that time. (I can't believe I'm about to say these things about myself...)

I was selfish and self-indulgent.

I was disrespectful and liked others who shared the same level of disrespectfulness.

I believed my life was worth more than certain groups, like the unborn.

I wanted to justify my immoral behavior, and turned to other people who would validate me.

I didn't want to believe in God, because I didn't want to even think about being held accountable for the things I was doing.

But thank GOD I'm not like that any more. I'm the complete opposite of my former self. Being a liberal is just one big mental mess.

I work for a living, my home is paid for, my car is paid for, I pay my bills, always have. I believe in hand ups not hand outs, as most people do. But it is important to me that all people in America have a chance at the American dream, I've seen many dreams turn into nightmares when one parent loses their job, suffers an illness such as cancer and loses insurance coverage. Most of the people I know can't afford to help their kids through college, and their kids can't earn enough to help themselves. I've seen people come to our small town and be discriminated against for wanted their chance at the American dream just because many white people are ingnorant and think they must be "foriegners" "taking our jobs", when we are children of immigrants. I've seen our main street businesses close when Walmart came to town, our money used to circulate in our town 4-5 times now it goes into the hands of a large corporation that only cares about profits as the people I know who work there only work part time and can't afford the healthcare option on what they make. It's important to me that having access to healthcare is a right and not a priviledge of the rich, and if that means it costs me more to have people cared for and educated that's OK with me. It's better than putting all of our money in the hands of greedy corporations who are being allowed to rob us blind for obscene profits and people are being allowed to suffer, I have a vision of a better America than that. What people need to realize that they are not immune to having their own situation change for the worst and not be able to do anything about it. I resent that our government has become the moral police, this is not the business of the government, making America better for Americans with the people's money is the governments business.

middle ideals, ideology is fairly a lot who a guy or woman is, apart from those to alter their perspectives to extra healthful the political occasion that they are affiliated with. those ideals are only who you're. i replaced right into a financial conservative in HS/college and that i'm nevertheless one at present. i replaced right into a social reasonable/liberal in HS/college and that i'm nevertheless one at present. I even have tweaked some perspectives slightly. I left the GOP while they pass too far to the right on social themes. i did not substitute MY perspectives to extra healthful their. you're Democrat or Republican in case you sign up to vote with a type of events. choosing a political occasion is a decision, your ideology, perspectives, isn't a lot. A events view is regardless of gets them the main votes=means and administration. they don't seem to be collectives and not anybody in a undeniable occasion thinks the comparable way. i'm an autonomous because of the fact we don't sign up by utilising occasion in Texas. that's superb with me as i don't elect to be affiliated with any political occasion. (Technically, i'm a Republican considering that I voted interior the 2010 common..yet i'm going to be seen a Democrat if/as quickly as I vote in that events common.)
