Traditionally, monks chanted prayers seven times a day. These services are the canonical hours. Roman Catholics can also refer them as the Offices. Benedictines also refer to them as the Opus Dei.

matins: at dawn
lauds: early morning (7am)
prime: (9am)
tierce: mid morning (11am)
sext: midday
nones: mid afternoon
vespers: dusk
complin: bedtime
