They are going to promote Mike Singletary to new head coach this offseason...hopefully.

They aren't going to get rid of Smith. Right now without a first or second round pick the 49ers really have no shot at doing much this offseason. Smith was drafted as their franchise QB and that is how its going to have to stay for this and next year.

Nolan might be able to keep his job if he wins the next 4 games this year...but I doubt the 49ers can go 7 - 9 this year...More like 3 - 13...from a playoff team to 3 -13 that sucks...

Good luck!!

these people need to get their facts straight. smith WAS NOT in the matt leinart, vince young, jay cutler draft. he was in the year before. the one where aaron rodgers was the other QB taken in the 1st by the packers. and to answer your questions as a true die hard 49ers fan:

i dont blame smith, and nobody else can and heres why. i still think smith can be a good QB, not a great one like manning or brady but a good one like jeff garcia or roethlisberger. to this day, smith is still the youngest starting QB or was since hes out for the year basically. but he is still younger than every other starting QB out there and its already his 3rd year. smith is a smart QB and he is more athletic than people give him credit for. smith has had 3 OCs in his 1st 3 years. can a rookie QB get off to a worst start than that? having 3 different guys telling you something your first 3 years in the NFL. it wont matter if he was a veteran, if you give favre another OC it wont matter but to a rookie it does. it will screw with a rookies mind like no other. and its obvious that happened with smith. since norv turner left, he regressed. when norv was still here, smith had a momunmental jump in his passer rating. smith needs to use his athleticism and run around more like what garcia and roethlisberger do. use your feet to buy time and pick up 1st downs. smith even though he can, doesnt do that at all. it could be the coaches or OC or QB coaches fault. smith has been hurt all year and we cant really use this year to judge him. i still think he has the tools to be a good QB.

as for nolan im not so lenient on. he is way too conservative to be a winning head coach. he makes a fine defensive coordinator and he is good at drafting and scouting players but he is not fit to be a head coach in the nfl. i say the 9ers should just either fire him or move him to GM, dont let him coach the 9ers. we need a real coach who can motivate players and use players' strengths and not weaknesses and a coach who isnt afraid to take chances. i say if mike martz is fired, we should go after him or if bill cowher has any interest go after him too. mike martz was a offensive genius with the rams and cowher loves power running and can use frank gore correctly.

The last thing the 49ers need to do is getting rid of coaches. How many different ones have they had the past few years? Pretty much one every single year. If they could hang on to the guys doing a good job and not letting them go, then San Fran. can be a decent team, not the revolving door it's become.

I like Alex Smith, we all saw he can play in the league last year. This year, he has a new offensive coordinator, again no wide receivers, and he was hurt all year.

As for Mike Nolan, I like him as a coach. He started with nothing, and built something has a good potential for the future. He basically stabilized the franchise. Keep in mind, he is also the general manager of the team. I think he needs to either share his GM responsibility with someone else or resign his GM position and focus on coaching. I think the ownership has a lot of faith in Nolan as a coach and GM of the team.

As a die hard 49er fan I as angrt when they drafted him over Matt Linert. Smith has had plenty of chances it is now time to get rid of Ryan Leaf ahhh I mean Alex Smith. While they are at it they need to get rid of the GM that drafted him.

Not to be a homer but Cutler was the best pick out for QB's in that first round. Young doesn't throw well and Smith is, well, Alex Smith.

Don't confuse my statement as a pedestal for Cutler. He's got alot of learning to do.

P.S. Mike Shannahan, fire Jim Bates already.
