The stopper just twists slightly to sink down and twists slightly to raise it up. I want to clean out the hair and gunk that I know is in there. Draino is not working for me. I need very basic steps. I am not mechanically inclined. There is no screw that I can see to unscrew it; I am assuming that it would be obvious. Thank you!!!

some of those tub drain, water stoppers have a screw At the way to the top and you cant see it sometimes there Phillips screws remove screw or loosen and turn to the opposite of the way it stops the water, if there is no screw then get a pair of pliers to fit under top of cover turn to the opposite of the way it works good luck be careful

the stopper itself should screw off, whatever the opposite direction is to the direction you have to turn it to make it go up....hopefully that made sense. that old saying "righty tighty lefty loosy" is not good for things like this because many times they are reverse threaded meaning they are the opposite of what a bolt would be. righty tighty lefty loosy is good for screws and nuts and bolts though.
so if it doesn't come free turning it one way go ahead and put an equal effort into the other direction, if it wont unscrew then it might be that you have to just pull it out, sometimes they are pressure fit, pull straight up firmly but dont go overboard with it you dont want to break it. if THAAAAT dosnt work then kick the tub a few times and say insulting things about the "designer of the drain plug" after that go get a hanger or anything long and flexible (pipe cleaners work great, that's why there called pipe cleaners even so you might go get one of those in a hefty size) use your hanger or pipe cleaner to prod any debris further down the drain, it helps to have the water running slowly , you will see it suddenly drain much quicker. ummm....thats all i cn think of, that's how i clean my bathtub drain because even when i take the plug out it is still just four little holes. good luck, there's some grOOOOS stuff in there.

Our tub stopper was made in Taiwan. The tub stopper is all one piece and the cap does not unscrew. It has a pin in the shaft of it, but not a screw. To remove the stopper we had to use needle nose pliers to grip the shaft and unthread the stopper. The stopper rim had three teeth on it so you would have to grip, rotate slightly until a tooth came around, reposition your pliers on the other side of the tooth and rotate again. If you don't hold onto the shaft with pliers the stopper will just spin around with the shaft and won't un-thread.

Most of the ones you are asking about just unscrew it self. Just turn it to the left. Remember righty to tighty. Best of luck

how about taking the trap off under the sink?
it's the u shaped pipe that has two large nut holding it in place.
if it's stopped up, that's probably where the problem is, in that trap. you need a monkey wrench and some pipe dope when you're ready to put it back together.
hope you understand what i said.
good luck to you.
