Probability ( Mrs. Kim is late ) = 0.20 (20%)
Probability ( Mrs. Kim is on time ) = 1 - 0.20 = 0.80 (80%)

Probability ( Mr. Oh is late ) = 0.30 (30%)
Probability ( Mr. Oh is on time ) = 1 - 0.30 = 0.70 (70%)

PROBLEM 1:

Probability both are picked up on time. This is simply the product of the probabilities:

In general, with two independent events A and B.

P(A and B) = P(A) * P(B)

Therefore:
P( K on time ) * P ( O on time ) = 0.80 x 0.70 = 0.56 (56%)

The probability that *both* children will be picked up *on time* is:
56%

PROBLEM 2:

Probability both are picked up late. Same method, just use the probabilities of being late.

P( K is late ) * P ( O is late ) = 0.20 x 0.30 = 0.06 (6%)

The probability that *both* children will be picked up *late* is:
6%
