How can i make a DNA model?

HEY PEOPLE, I JUST WANTED TO HAVE A FEW IDEAS ON HOW TO MAKE A DNA MODEL, PLEASE TELL ME!

1) Long dowel (broom handle will do) with holes drilled down the sides in rows.
2) Stick bamboo skewers in these holes in a spiral pattern.
3) Get coloured balls (small) - how small is small? - and palce these balls on the skewers, four on each.

You have a strand of DNA.
