My nephew is 10 and a very good artist. He is exceptional at creating cartoon characters. I am trying to take some of his drawings and transfer them on pages when ordering an e-book along with puttng them on disk. Is there a program he can use on the computer to achieve a professional image? I tried scanning and saving but the characters really lose their vibrant colors and I can't size them correctly. Any suggestions?

Wow, thanks so much. Both of you really helped me enter my nephews world with a better understanding and I learned a few things as well about scanners. Thanks again.

Before you get too far away from the scanner idea (which should be pretty useful), maybe you should concentrate on getting the most from your scanner. Most scanners have options that allow you to scan at higher resolutions, and even enhance colors, etc.
My Canon scanner does well for me (for Web and computer images) at 200 to 300 dpi (dots per inch).
So- set aside a block of time and put some real energy into experimenting with scanner settings.
After scanning- various image editing programs can be used to change image size, sharpen, etc.
Most scanners come packaged with some kind of image editing software to get you started.
Good luck, hope we've helped you (both).

BTW- Almost forgot- here's a link to check out a Wacom graphire tablet. With one of these, an artist can draw directly on the computer (no paper- no mess!!)

If you want them hosted up free on a comic site, which he may find really cool, check out www.drunkduck.com It's free, you (well your nephew) keeps all his copyrights, and people can go look at them when they want.
