Hubby's worried because he's heard from a manager from another department that his boss is not impressed with him or his note taking (they keep track of what they do with the notes I don't know why my hubby wasn't covering his ***). His boss hasn't said anything to him [yet] so should he be so worried? As of today he's been taking notes of everything he can think of. Thanks all!

I know about employment at will, I was just wondering if there's a usual method or not.

You only get fired at 24 hours' notice if you've done something really bad. Otherwise, the boss should call him in and go through his work performance with him, telling him where he needs to improve and giving him a timeline to show improvement. After that, if he doesn't show he's serious about improving, he'll be asked to go. Your husband should be on his best behaviour from now on, so that his boss can't find the reasons to sack him. If he's a kind person, he should not sack anyone just before Christmas. Personally, I think it's unconscionable and I wouldn't do it.

In most states there is something called "employment at will". This basically means that any employer can choose not to keep you on for any reason, or no reason at all. The only exception to that is, of course, if they are firing you because of a protected reason (i.e. your race, religion, sex, etc).

They just don't fire good employees. His boss knows what type of job he does, and should have talked to him.
