The concept seems soo foreign to me. So far I haven't enjoyed any of my jobs. Right now I'm going for Chemical Engineering and it has its ups and downs....mostly sucks, but I usually don't enjoy learning unless I'm getting good grades or I'm not very stressed. I don't learn, read, or inquire just for the fun of it. I get really bored reading just about anything, especially in my field. And changing my major wouldn't work, because I am not interested in anything else. I don't understand how to change and enjoy learning and work...

Does sound like you have an underlying issue that is affecting your ability to feel happiness.

However, to address your question, yes, it is possible to enjoy work. Some people even love the work they do.

That said, I rarely enjoy the work I do - BUT I enjoy aspects of the job, or the environment enough that warrants me staying there. (Unfortunately the things I enjoy I can't get paid much for (like writing, reading and painting), so I have to have a 'real' job to pay the bills.)

What I do is look for bits of it to like. E.g., I like writing evaluations of projects, or I like planning - whatever it is I really try and enjoy that while I'm doing it. The other stuff I just try and get through and do the best job I can. Good luck, and maybe you need to talk to someone... sounds like burnout!

I tend to agree with what Perseus says here. Also, some people can totally hate their jobs and still be able to do it every day somehow. Others are more affected by it so it depends on the person. I'm one who cannot take it for very long. Some view a job as the way to pay bills and the things they are passionate about are the extra curricular activities outside the job. For some even doing something they love as a job - the fact that it becomes "a job" makes them dislike it in the job realm because now it is a "job."
There are many factors that go into whether or not you can like a job. Where you work, who you work for, who you work with. Does the job allow for a balanced life? Do you take the job home with you? Do you sit in a cube all day? Would you rather make 20 thousand dollars less a year doing a job where you are more active and on the go than the one where you sit in a cube which earned you 20 thousand more? Lots of factors go into this. I believe that you can find the right work environment but you have to be willing to search and if something is not working, stick it out for a year and then move on.

Oh, not here. I have clinical depression and the medication is wonderful. I find that doing activities like gardening or volunteer work lift my mood. I have a coworker I like to tease that he's never happy unless he's miserable. I hasten to add my favorite films are reality based and many have sad endings. I don't get depressed because it's a big world out there. Mum Mum, very wise answer.

I have always felt that if I did not like my job I would change it.
It is possible to like what you do for a living I have had quite a few jobs that I enjoyed going to. Allot of it has to do with the people you work with. Be outgoing and have fun with it otherwise whats the point.

I wish somebody has done some research on this. It is not possible to like the job all the time. Try for 80% enjoyment. I expect 50% OK is better than most, with 10% pleasant I have achieved.

I loved my work because it was somthing I was passionate about and it was more of a love affair than a job, so I could put in countless hours at it and never complain.

FIRST you have to pick a field you really LIKE... then plan your career around it.

Then Chemical Engineering isn't the job for you. When you find "work" that you enjoy,it no longer becomes "work".It's just doing something you love doing and you're just getting paid to do it.That's my concept anyway.
