It might be a yeast infection. Another symptom of a yeast infection is a white crumbly or flaky discharge--some describe it as kind of cottage cheese-like. It's not particularly dangerous, but it won't go away until it's treated, and is unpleasant. So you really need to get it checked. The reason you're getting it now, so soon after first getting your period, is that yeast tends to breed in damp places. When girls reach physical maturity, the vagina changes--there's a lot more discharge to keep the area moist on a daily basis, and when you get your period, you've got a lot of bloody discharge in that area. The change can bring on a yeast infection. Also, don't douche--that can cause a yeast infection. There are creams you can get in the drugstore (Monistat) or a pill you can get by prescription. You should really tell your mom about this, and she can help you treat it--it's very common, and easily treatable, so there's no reason that you should keep being in this state of discomfort! Feel better soon!

Hey kid,
Welcome to the wonderful world of hormones - all SORTS of fun stuff will be going on down there for decades. I'm so glad
I'm almost over this monthly thing myself.
So far most of what everyone else has said is probably the case, what they havent said is that SELF DIAGNOSING ISNT A GOOD THING WHEN IT COMES TO THIS AREA. Using a drug - the wrong one - could wind up giving you a worse problem - what i was going to suggest is make sure that you are DRYING yourself well after washing, rinsing ALL the soap off carefully when you do, DONT use alot of sprays, and dont douche, its not safe - go to Oprah's website and click on the button for Dr Oz's section, he just covered the whys and why nots about douching very thoroughly.
Now for the record, maintaining good vaginal flora (bacteria) levels is easy - you use yogurt. Make sure its live culture yogurt - unflavored of course - and eat it and after your period you can take a spoonful of it and put it inside then put on a pad and let it sit overnite. My mother has done this for years, it corrects any bacterial imbalances NATURALLY. She's never had ANY problems with her female parts because she tends not to use antibiotics unless she absolutely has to Eating yogurt and using the insertion method once a month is good for you.

You could be dealing with a yeast infection based on the symptom of itching. I would recommend letting your mom know what's going on as well. If it is a yeast infection they have medications that are used without having to swallow.
