A dish I haven't made in years, but one I made occasionally
when my husband and I were young, is Beef Stroganoff from
scratch, without any short cuts. And it was a wonderful com-
fort meal. I usually served a nice tossed salad, and a green
vegitable, unless corn on the cob was in season. It was one
my husband and I loved. And my husband would bring home a loaf of fresh garlic bread to serve along with it, that I'd lather soft butter and minced garlic together across the bread and put under the broiler til golden. Yum, you just want to hug yourself, it tastes that good LOL.

It was a pork roast with potatoes, carrots and onions. Then I made gravy out of the broth. I made it for my parents as both of them was hungry for a roast with all the trimmings.

Double baked taters, meat loaf and baked beans -- whomever shares my table when I'm cooking. It's the only thing edible that I cook, but it is exceptionally good. AND it goes well with beer.

A dinner I made for my eldest daugher...
Lump crabmeat; lobster chunks; shrimp; and scallops in a wine and butter and garlic sauce over saffron rice with fresh green beans on the side.
She still asks me to fix it...but nowadays I can't afford the seafood! LOL
Oh yeah - and because I lived in Italy for many years, I make really good authentic italian sauce for spaghetti.
I made it once for my then boyfriend's surprise birthday dinner/party - from then on for YEARS, even after we broke up, he would call me and ask me to make him some...lol

I can make a pretty good gringo style chile verde. My husband loves it and I make it for him about once a month.... if he's been good. I'm not a good cook, so there aren't many "best" dishes.
