I'm thinking about the people who have everything and are hard to please.

If I was to give to a charity in their name, would that be a good gift? How much to give? And if the person in question is notoriously a "cheapskate" (I'm talking 'waits for their penny back' cheap) do you still think they'd think it was a good gift? Or would it be a waste of money?

If they have everything, then yes by all means! Hard to please people should not be something you waste your time on, this way you please your sense of right and wrong and perhaps teach these people what Christmas is truely about. As for how much, it's all about what you feel is appropriate for your budget. Maybe you can give to a charity that gives tax receipts and give it to the cheapskate, this way they get the pennies back with their tax return. Merry Christmas.

This is a wonderful idea. Send the charity whatever amount you would have spent on a gift. If you really want it to be meaningful, try to find out the person's favorite charity and send it there. Or select a cause he or she can relate to. Include the name and address of the person in whose name you are donating, some charities will send an acknowledgement to them.

If you select a worthwhile cause, it is never a waste of money!

great idea. There are so many good ones that would appreciate a gift, the food bank, the Salvation Army, Cancer care, Breast cancer, Heart & Stroke foundation etc...
Give the person a fancy box of chocolates, and add a nice card with the donation recieipt in it.

i think that's a wonderful idea.
my friend recently asked for her birthday if her friends would make contributions to an animal safety organization.
overall, though, is there anything else you might like to give them?
if there's something you think they would like rather than donating to charity in their name, i think you should consider that as well.
i don't really know the person, but overall i think contributing to charity is a great idea!
hope that helped. (:

Nice idea, but not sure that all people will like that.
