Why is the formula for a compound of Li+ ion and Br- ion written LiBr?

Because the Li+ is attracted to the Br-. Because that was the arrangement of chemical names and chemical formulas postulated by Antoine Laurent Lavoisier, who arranged these things in the18th century.
