clorox

When I was in college (it has been a few years, I admit), it was a standard chemistry lab experiment to figure out the percentage of sodium hypochlorite in a bottle of Clorox and a bottle of store brand bleach. The store brand always had a slightly higher percentage of sodium hypochlorite. I have read recently, that the scented Clorox bleaches contain a much lower percentage of sodium hypochlorite than the standard unscented Clorox.
Standard Clorox runs about 5% sodium hypochlorite. If you go to the swimming pool chemical section of the store, you can buy 10% sodium hypochlorite. Same stuff, just more concentrated.
If you buy the store brand of bleach, with slightly more active ingredient and a lower price than Clorox brand bleach, you are getting more bang for your buck. AND I have not calculated in that they keep trying to sneak a smaller bottle (less than a gallon) by at the same price as a full gallon.
It really comes down to a choice of name brand or cost. The bleach in the bottle is same.

Bleach is not Bleach lol>> it starts from about 5% to 7% on the store shelf..and for power washing houses..for I am a 37 year experienced painter..I use 12% I purchase from the pool supply place....Look on the label it will tell you it's percentage..as I say common store bleach is 5 to 7%

Commonly the most dangerous chemical found in a household, bleach is an inorganic aqueous solution of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite. Bleach is a clear to yellowish liquid with a distinct chlorine like odor. Often mistakenly referred to as "chlorine bleach" because of its strong smell, bleach does not release a considerable amount of chlorine gas during its normal mode of action. Bleaches often include sodium hydroxide to maintain a pH-dependent equilibrium between the hypochlorite and chlorine the solution contains. Household bleach normally has a very alkali pH of around 12.5, and it is highly corrosive. Different solution strengths are marketed for different uses. High strength bleach is usually a 10% sodium hypochlorite solution, and some industrial bleaches may be up to 50%. Pool chlorine is usually 12%.

look for the percentage of sodium hypochlorite and compare. I find that store bleach is the same as Clorox in most instances.

I like Clorox, but for outdoor use, I buy the cheapest, even if it is a store-bought-store-brand.

FYI, I buy my Clorox at the store too.

The Available Chorine levels are tested when packed. Chlorine amounts come down by more than 20% in the first two months of production.

Cheap bleaches contain Chlorine and water.
They have -
* No Thickeners which increase surface contact times on bathroom walls and in toilets.
* No Chlorine stabilizing agents, which help increase chlorine shelf life of the product.
* No Surfactants, which help break down oil barriers on soiled surfaces. Which reduces their bug kill efficiency.

Go for name brands they are slightly more expensive for a reason.

Good Luck!!

Probably not, don't take chances. It also burns with store bought bleach. They make pre-made bleach things just for that.

Clorox, especially since it removes bacteria better.
