how can you selflessly administer torture??
if your friend was getting beat up, wouldnt you intervene? if you just watch them get beat up because it was your job to administer it and you'd get fired, then that would be selfish of you.

Evil is subjective, so if I do something that somebody else considers evil, it could certianly not be selfish.

To be selfish, is to be concerned primarily with ones own interests. These interests can include (but are not limited to) family, loved ones, their job, their health, etc. It is not wrong to work for your own self interest.

If every sin was selfish, then love would be a sin. You do not love, that which is not an interest to you. You love someone because you admire them, because you receive some sort of selfish enjoyment and pleasure from being with them. Imagine the alternative: "I love you not for how you make me feel, I am unselfish. I don't admire you. It makes no difference to me whether you are dead or alive, because I have no selfish interest in this relationship whatsoever."

So is selfishness evil? It isn't...

The Mandarin language has 2 words for "selfishness." The western world's linquistics have denied these differences for the purposes of making "self" opposed to "altruism."
Every act except those of altruism are "selfish," but only in the sense that they come from the self. The definition of "selfishness" is not "walking over graves," and the Mandarins know this. They would disagree with you and say evil is not of the self because the self is respectful of others.

Selfishness is a very underrated high quality in a individual. it is going to in no way be linked with evil. If human beings have been all a sprint greater egocentric i think we could see a plenty happier society and one that in turn could be greater possibly to assist others. I easily have been particularly egocentric my entire existence, yet the two as giving. as a consequence I easily have considered and completed greater desirable than maximum do in 10 lifetimes. Now I commit my existence to the help and encouragement for others to attain their desires. The sociopath is one without thoughts, no longer a selfishness yet a blindness. One the place the purposes at the instant are not socially perfect.

All selfish acts are not evil. If a mother looks after her child better than those of others she is not being evil. An evil act inflicts damage to a large scale and it condemnable by all.

Every act that someone performs is an act of selfishness. We do things for our selves everday. It's to what degree that the selfish act is taken that counts.

Not necessarily. Torture for instance is an evil act by any definition, but someone who administers torture might be selflessly doing it for their people. (and I am not justifying torture)

I think an evil act is a sin. Will anyone agree? So, if every evil act is a sin, then all we have to do is define sin. My definition of sin is bringing one away from God. If that's putting yourself before God, so be it.

yes. it is evil because it is selfish. the same act can be made but not be evil if it was done for other more noble reasons

I don't know, the saying 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions' comes to mind. I guess whether your selfish or not depends on where you stand.
