any books that you recommend that show all sorts of techniques for blowing glass?

Interesting question! I took a course in glass blowing back in 1970 at Illinois State University. There are not too many places that have a complete set up with the furnaces and kilns.

For techniques of blowing glass from the furnace, get Ed Schimd's Beginning Glassblowing and Advanced Glassblowing which have hundreds of detailed step by step drawings. Widely used as class books.

For glassblowing at the torch (lamp working), Contemporary Lampworking by Bandu Scott Dunham is a huge advance on previous books. (same link further down)
