Besides epidurals , c-sections and natural birth , is their anything you can have to help ease the pain. In a health secret book, I heard about walking epidurals which are a couple of shots that have more pain reliever then numbing of the body , has anyone ever used them . Please help.

Hi
I guess it just depends, yes its best to go natural but that's not always the case. It depends on a lot of factors, u might have to have a section. I wouldn't chose to have an epidural or a section but if there was a emergency then i guess the doc's know more than me. I found the best thing to do is to relax, go with it, try not to tense up. Just keep thinking that it'll soon be over and your babe will be in your arms. Mind over matter and all that!. I had both my children naturally with just a bit of gas and air but found it made me feel ill. I'm hoping to have this one naturally too but as they are worried i am having a large baby i might need to be induced early or poss have a c-section. Just gotta wait and see i guess. Hope this helps.

Go natural. The pain is only a few hours out of your life and nothing is like feeling your baby come out. I had an epidural with my first and she came 1/2 hour later-what a waste. The second was all natural and it was the best thing I could have done

My mom said the best was when the doctor used a shot to numb her muscles for natural birth. After that, she didn't feel a thing down there, but still could feel the rest of her body. She said it was even better than an epidural, but isn't sure that they still do that anymore

What you need to do is talk to the anethesiologist about what options are available. Not all hospitals offer walking epidurals. You might check out the pregnancy boards at www.ivillage.com. They often have up to date information on what is available today.

There are drugs you can take (usually in the IV), but many women have reported that they just make the woozy and loopy. They actually DO help pain, but you are not alert.

I disagree with Yamiku. C-sections do not cause women to gain wait. I'm overweight, had a c-section, but in no way was my weight connected to the surgery.

See how you go, don't forget to breath and if you feel that you need pain relief then have it if your in too much pain and stressing out that is not good for a baby who is going through the traumatic time of coming out into the world, you might not find it too painful i know i didn't until the last hour and i was in labour for 15 hrs, just make sure you have a fab birthing partner who you can shout at and inflict a little of your pain onto. Ask your midwife/OB about other pain relief they know all medical and non medical options and the good and bad of all as there is no one sure option that will not have a down side good luck and health to you and your baby.

not matter what it all hurts. C-section leaves scars and makes women gain weight like crazy. Epidural, if that shot is in a wrong place it can either kill or paralyze them. Natural way, yeah it will hurt but they would still have a healthy baby.

If I was going to give birth I would go with natural.

Hope I helped!!!

Epidurals are safe, for you and the baby. Your back might hurt afterwards because of bruising, but the odds of being paralized or dying is like none. I'm going to try and go natural just because I'm that scared of needles!!! But IV drugs do make you "high" and your baby. The only real thing to ease the pain is meds...breathing will help you, but it's not going to take the pain away!!

nothing that's good for the baby. epidurals are not that helpful because they don't give them to you until you're on the delivery table. Don't induce labor if you don't have to. That will intensify the pain. Natural best and it's also the easiest for most people. You forget all about the pain after you hold your baby in your arms.

Some people use narcotics- like demerol or stadol but I totally rec natural. The pain only lasts so long and you have less of a chance for a csection and longer labor.
