i know it's to abbreviate it, but why an x, and do you know the origin

Yes, the "X" is the symbol of the cross.

The earliest Christian symbol is the "Chi-Roe" which is the Greek X superimposed over the Greek "P".

In other words, the Chi (X) stands for Christ.

the origin was lazy people who didnt feel like writing the entire word
