yes, but because the field it goes to is narrow. the heisman favors QBs and RBs, but only the skill players are eligible (technically, defensive players ar too, but not really). the Heisman is supposed to go to the best PLAYER, so i think if they opened it up to all players, even offensive lineman and such, then it would truly mean something. the best player doesnt always put up the best stats.
as for yall saying about heisman winners doing badly in the pros, it doesnt matter. the heisman is a collegiant award, and means nothing to nfl teams

I do not think it is over-rated at all. It is simply a symbol to show A player on a given year that he had a great season and was viewed at the time "the best". The problem is you have humans deciding who is "best". Most people have heard the saying "opinons are like A**holes, we all have one and and they all stink". Just like any given day on the field, somebody will win and somebody will lose. Does this mean the other person/team did not deserve to be there? No. Regardless of what people try to say, there will always be bias. Of course Hawaii think Colt, Florida think Tebow, AK thinks Macfadden. No matter who wins, they ALL deserve to be there and could argueably deserve to recieve the award. I do feel the Heisman should NOT be given out until after the bowl games, case in point Troy Smith stunk the field up last year after winning the Heisman. No where does the Heisman say "led team to an undeafeted season", "led team to ___ amount of last minute come from behind victories", "broke 2 dozen records", "1st player ever be a 20+ TD passer and 20+ TD runner", "Will be drafted to the NFL 1st round and led an NFL team to a super bowl". All the finalist's have arguments for and against. Colt led Hawaii to an undeafeted season, led a lot of come from behind victories and broke lots of records. However, the BEST player shouldn;t have to come from behind so many times because he would have them leading the whole time, he has broke 25 records, yeah against WAC defenses. Also, I have personally been in Aloha Stadium and the rubber field they have if you are a defensive back and do not run on that all the time, it is not easy so advantage Wideouts for Hawaii there. Tebow 1st player in NCAA to ever Pass and Rush for 20+ TD. Tebow has more rushing TD's than Emmit Smith, not sure if you have ever heard of him but ya should have. Most argument's against him are "Most of his runs are from 5 yards or less, anyone can do that". If that's the case, put on pads and make a team and do it all the time and get off Blog sites. Also, "Tebow has 3 losses". Lets go over this one, FLORIDA has 3 losses, not Tebow. Why? Because Tebow had FL in the lead in the last seconds against Auburn, the DEFENSE, which a QB is not a part of, gave up chunk's of the field to allow Auburn into Field Goal range which the kicker kicked perfect TWICE. Tebow had Florida in the lead against #1 LSU late in the 4th Quarter, yet Florida's "wonderful" defense gave up 5, count them 5, 4th Down Conversions. Is this Tebows fault? I think not. And this could go on for hours but to save time. Arguments can be made for each player. Why hold Chase Daniels down, he did not get hurt on purpose. His numbers were great before the Injury. Either way, I am glad to see the Players up for the award handle all the BS behind it better than the Fans. By the way I am a Florida fan and my vote would be 50 First place for Tebow and 49 3/4 First place for Colt. Obviously the 1/4 being the HUMAN bias in everyone.

Yes it is pretty overrated but I think Major League MVP is even more overrated because most players who win it only bat about 4 times per game and make a couple of fielding plays per game
As a group, Heisman Trophy winners don't do much better at the professional level than any other early draft choices.

You have allot nerve down playing an award normally awarded to the hardest working athlete for football at the collegiate level. No matter what you do in life it sometimes OK to be recognized for your accolades. Now some Heisman winners may not deserve to go pro. But for that moment in time them be recognize in that sport at that time as the undisputed best. Unless your Ron Dayne and you know that award should have went to Peter Warrick.....but we won't go into that.........

No. The Heismann is awarded to the best College football player. It is not, and never was, intended to be a judgement on how well that player would do in the NFL.
It's a college award, not a professional award.

Yes, I realized the Heisman bogus after FSU's Charlie Ward won it in '93 and proceeded to go UN DRAFTED in the NFL. Huh????
