Grandmother would take a ruined shirt and cut all the buttons off and save them in a jar. If we ever lost a button, she might have a matching button to sew on for us in that old jar!

When I hand wash dishes, I line the dishes up on the counter in a certain order and then wash them that way. I do glassware, plates, bowls, silverware, and lastly, the pots & pans.

I save all those extra buttons that come with new shirts. Every once in a while I get to use one when a button comes loose. They are not sewn very snugly on those new shirts.

I have a big jar of buttons that has been "handed down" from my husband's grandmother. Some of those buttons look like they came off old military uniforms. I might have something valuable in that jar!

Same thing! I save all the old buttons and zippers. I should quit, I haven't sewn on button or replaced a zipper in years. I usually tighten all buttons and button holes when I get something new and they never come off. By the time the zipper on something is shot, so is the garment so I don't need to replace that zipper. WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING WITH ALL THIS STUFF????

1) One of my old habits that I can't break is still sizing up a
nice pair of jeans as he's
walking away from me. I may
even make a comment he can
hear.
2)I never could tolerate bad
mannered people and told them so. Same holds today.
3) A glass of wine (or 2) before bed.
4) Making friends with strangers, wherever I meet them. Now that I ride the
bus, I'm the Granny answer
lady. You know, not very many people treat the homeless nice.

This is NEW habit of mine. I don't think my mom or Grandma did it but when one of my dress shirts was ready for the rag pile a couple month ago, I cut the buttons off and put them in my sewing bag.

BTW, I got the sewing machine in the divorce. :+)

My mother used to keep them in a tin. She had hundreds of them. When my daughter was young, 4 and 5, she would spend hours sorting them. The fun she would have with those silly buttons. It is such a fond memory for her. Me, Inever did save anything like that, kinda sorry I never started because when you do lose something you have to go but it.

Saving just about anything that was originally serviceable for that day when I just may need it!

Although about every 2-3 years I clean out the 'stash' I just start collecting once again!

People know that and ask me, Sage, do you by any chance have .........and I say Yep, do believe I have one of those! LOL
