I really like turtles and tortoises and have a small herd right now- but they are not a easy pet for the average person.

Do some research before you buy one- http://www.austinsturtlepage.com is a good place to start.

HA! ok the hartmann was acting like it was a person.
Well I infact have a turtle as a pet. Nothing exciting, but I like him. Its nice to have one but its not all that FUN I guess you could say. And if you dont clean the cage for a while, it gets REALLY BAD!!!! They arent very activive anmals, but at night mine likes ot crawl around. if your getting oue as a pet, I wouldnt use grass as shavings in the cage cause u have to clean it sooner, I suggest just wood shavings. turtles like those cause they burry themselves in it. Oh and you can by turtle food @ your local walmart.

we have a red eared slider named Little buddy and he is delightful. he started out not much bigger than a quarter and now is about 3 pounds. he loves to swim and eat. he is in a 50 gallon aquarium with a filter that looks like a water fall. he doesn't smell unless we dint clean his filter as the appropriate time. We don't stick our fingers by his mouth because we've seen him eat. but we are able to take him out and watch him crawl. Not very snugly but much cooler than a goldfish and they live for a very long time.

They are interesting animals, however, they can be a real mess. They also can be dangerous to have around children because of salmonella and other parasites.

They can be real jerks when you first meet them. But, once you get to know them you realize they were doing that purely out of insecurity and can be real, real nice. Although don't let them house sit cause they say they won't throw parties but trust me....
