For a young (16-24) person's accent to change when living in another place?? Like if someone moved from the midwest to the south, how long would it be til' the local accent rubs off on him or her????

sometimes never my family have been in Australia for nearly 30 years and have never lost their accents, they were young when they came over

It depends. A couple of people from Scotland came to my school freshman year. One of them had an American accent in less than six months. The other is a senior now and still has a thick, Scottish accent.

Everyone is different, some people get it quick. I have cousins from P.A. and I'm in NC. We used to see each other for 2 weeks in the summer. Before they would go home I would pick up their accent a little.

Moved quite frequently due to my Military Duties (yes, I AM Retired Military), so I can say this -- no matter where I moved to -- I ALWAYS sounded like where I was raised ... and it never changed.

That depends on the person.
Some people are not susceptible
to a different dialect.

don't know but my grandma had a cousin who migrated to australia and he still sounded like he was from the bronx even after decades
