No… just the opposite for me… My fruit cake uncle who rides a Rebel 250 bought one… He was afraid to ride it home from the BMW dealer because it was so far away… That will suck when he need parts or service… (5 HD dealers closer)… The bike was way too top heavy… Seat is way to high… Bad in cross-wind… The power band was all wrong … The engine sound was very uninspiring…
The windshield is jokingly unusable. The bike on a whole felt like an glorified dirt bike
Oh yeah… one more thing I noticed… The seating position is not good for putting on miles… Im guessing that’s why every 5 miles when I passed a Starbucks I would see other BWM riders standing around with their lattes and giggling… They were very easy to spot out in their colorful outfits… I didn’t know you could get pink, yellow and purple leather pants and jackets!!!!.. I must admit they were all very friendly when they saw another rider on a BMW… they would all do the “biker wave”… well kinda… they all had a special way of doing it… with their wrist limp for some reason… beats me!!!… But if that’s their thing so be it…
After 75 miles I couldn’t wait to get back on my HD… $15 grand for the BMW???… That’s a lot of decalf ½ soy ½ skim with whipped cream on top frappuccinos!!!

I have a 2005 Gs1200 and have put 24000. miles on it so far.Lots of traveling on and off road.I love it and have no plans to part with it. One of the many great things i like about it is while heading down the road you see this cool looking dirt road and can ride it also. BMW has some nice clothing like HD and it is very hi tech. So i say ride what you want to ride ,not what you think looks cool. One last thing,,,it would be a boring life if everyone drove the same thing.

You are right - the only problem is that I will have to start eating caviar fish eggs, join the country club, buy a Mercedes or Lexus for a cage, and start playing golf. I don't like wine very much, and all the Beemer clubs seem to want to do around here is ride to wine tasting events, and attend operas.
Nope, I'll stick you wrenching my Triumphs, hanging out in pubs drinking beer with my mates, and listening to rockabilly. ;-)

I have ridden these and they suck. They are extremely heavy, top heavy. The handling characteristics are terrible. Not to mention weight. It is a sacrilege to classify these ROBO bikes as a dual sport.
The venerable R80 GS from the early 80s is a much better bike, and is much preferred for dual sport riding. (besides it DOES NOT have a para-lever, meaning you do not need to change shaft every 40K)
Most serious adventure riders won't even consider an OILHEAD.

People don't pay attention to who or what your riding as much as you would like to think they were. Just ride what you like and enjoy.

Well at least you won't have to worry about getting smoked up by 250cc Japanese bikes anymore. I mean theres nothing more embarassing than getting slapped down by a whisper quiet 3500$ 250cc bikes while your on a 20,000$ 1600cc paint mixer.

If you start riding a BMW, your problem will be a shrinking weiner, not looking cool. Good luck with that!
