They usually do that for a special occasion. Because they know that they will probably never wear that article of clothing again. Or some times to show off some kind of fashion that they really can't afford.

I have heard of girls doing this with prom dresses. Some places have an "all sales final" policy with prom dresses because of this and will not accept returns.
