It's not that the government, many of the marijuana laws we have today are credited to Harry J. Anslinger. Watch the documentary "Grass" narrated by Woody Harrelson. Very interesting and enlightening.

It's a political thing that has everything to do with race and economics. The government has outlawed marijuana due to the fact if it were legal the sale of it would economically empower nations where the indigenous people are people of color. It's alright that alcohol is legal and it takes more lives and has addictive qualities, the sale of alcohol empowers the USA and European nations. In this day and age, the name of the game is still racism when it comes to the all mighty dollar.

it has something to do with hemp and its ability to used in many ways. cloth, paper, twine. its real strong. when William Hearst invested in paper futures and heard that hemp paper was going to be the standard, he got all his powerful political connections and lobbied to make hemp illegal. along with hemp , marijuana was also made illegal. so the real reason that it is illegal in the united states is motivated by greed.

To my knowledge, they don't hate it, it's just illegal. The former head of the DEA told me at a debate he'd have no problem making it legal, he just didn't have the sole authority to do so.

You can say what you want in support of MJ but I'm 52 and I've seen what happens to those who didn't quit smoking the stuff when they were young. I live in a small town and I run into people my age who are still smoking. They can't even put a intellegent sentence together.
