It is well established that over 75% of our fighting forces are conservative. It is without challenge that we have a volunteer military. It is without challenge that some of us are simply too old to fight (in my case disabled). So, what type of mileage do they think they are getting?

Just for those who are asking for sources, a Military Times survey of its readership (primarily career military officers and enlisted personnel) in 2004 asked which politician they were supporting for president. By an astonishing 72 to 17 percent margin, the active-duty military personnel who took the survey favored Bush over Kerry (Guard and Reserve respondents favored Bush, 73 to 18 percent). The overall response has been listed as high as 4-1 in favor of Bush (80%), depending on how the data is analyzed.

Now, one thing to keep in mind is that supporting Bush does NOT necessarily mean that they're conservatives. It simply means they support Bush over Kerry as INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATES. The support for Bush's policies has fallen since that survey was conducted. While the survey wasn't scientific in nature it served as an indicator of what our troops think. I looked at the survey about overall political beliefs, and I find it almost entirely inconclusive. Without naming the size of your sample good statisitcal analysis is almost impossible. When 10% of respondents aren't responding to questions like "are you conservative or liberal" then the entire legitimacy of the poll is called into question.

I myself find the entire "why don't you enlist" argument to be a particularly annoying form of the tu quoque fallacy. Do you support tougher crime policies? Then go join a police academy. Do you support more money for education? Then you should go become a teacher. Do you support NASA? Then go get a PhD and become a rocket scientist. I think you get the idea. I can support policies without taking direct part in their implementation. I did my time in the Army, and was discharged for sleepwalking of all things. While I was in I can honestly say that Clinton was openly loathed, hippies were only good for practicing your self defense maneuvers, and the three books found in every APC were the operating manual, a bible, and a Tom Clancy novel. In short the Army is a conservative beast, by its very nature.

The libs fret and encourage fear over it before each election.

It draws young voters to vote democrat by which the politicians bringing it up can defend not instituting the draft.

However history has dictated that about the only time the draft is invoked is when a democrat is in office.

With their military spending cuts being slashed away like they do... Volunteers steer clear of enlisting. Which cuts out about 75% of whom most Y!A goofs claim are stupid, uneducated and poorly bred chickenhawks (republicans / conservatives.)

The trouble though is they're actually quite smart and aren't living a life with glossy blinders on.

So while the two-faced clowns are in office (liberals) they can't even encourage serial killers to enlist while at the same time giving them more rights for protection against the very laws that are intended to protect innocent people from whackos.

It's clearly a double edged sword they depict as a draft problem but they couldn't for the life of themselves figure out why people (conservatives) don't like being sent into harms way without proper equipment OR SUPPORT.

duh

I think bigsky_5 said it best.

I can support anything I choose, but I don't have to be actively involved in it.
I support space exploration, but I don't see myself getting a job at NASA anytime soon.
I support law enforcement and fire fighters, but that doesn't mean because I do so that I'm going to apply.

It's a liberal gum flap. It is never meant as a challenge. It's meant as a derogatory remark or cut down. Like it has been said many times before, anytime I put down someone else, I'm covering up my own character defects. The question is what are those defects that liberals have that make them spew illogical horseshyt? Only they know however, I have a pretty good idea.

I like you JK did my time in the military. Am too old anyway. I'd be more in the way than any help. But we do need support for our troops and their missions here at home to counter the lib hypocrisy's going on every day.
I'd be willing to bet there are VERY few members of our armed forces that don't appreciate OUR support of them and their mission here at home.

In closing I'll leave it with this.

The definition of a liberals thoughts and views are just this.
"They are indifferent to any other form of thought, practice or deed, exept their own, based on their own self justifications."

How funny that truth seeker obviously can't read his own provided poll. ONLY 9% claimed to be liberal while 45% claimed to be Conservative. Let me help you with some math now... That is a 5 - 1 margin. You see... those who claimed to be "moderate" (which is middle of the road), you try and claim to be liberal... those 9% who declined to answer are not liberal either.

Funny how liberals always try to make up facts that don't exist. Good try though, but those of us that can read and comprehend polling information know better.

Because they are tired of being called cowards and white flag wavers. If you believe with all your heart, really believe that we are doing the right thing, then why not go help? It is the old Larry Craig thing, bash gays, and then, guess what? Anyway it is kind of put up or shut up. If you are not willing to back your stance, fine, just don't call someone cowards that are doing the same thing you are, but give a reason for doing so. Basically they just want to tell you that you don't know them and are tired you telling them what they think or feel. You don't.

Would you volunteer, if you didn't believe in the operation? I wouldn't! That would be hypocrisy. I don't know where you got your 75% conservatives, anyway, but when the troops come home, and are no longer sworn to keep their mouth shut about politics, listen to them. If there was a legitimate war, liberals would volunteer, without a doubt!
