Or the really smart whipper snappers? I remember reading a long time ago, a story about a coach (or maybe player) that physically attacked a fan in the stands of an arena during a game. This was before there was glass around the boards or bench area. If my memory serves me right, it was the result of some heckling.

Who was this coach (or maybe player), and do you remember how the story went?

Thanks for the answers so far.

This was a long time ago (The original 6). I am pretty sure it was a coach (maybe the Habs?), and he was suspended for what he did. Oh, it really stinks getting older. I just can’t remember.

Domi didn't attack the Flyers fan, he squirted him with water because the guy kept pounding on the glass and heckling him while Domi was in the penalty box and the guy went nuts and eventually broke down the glass and ended up in the box with Domi. I think the guy crapped his pants then because he got more than a face wash from it from Domi.

This one was not original 6 but could be what you are thinking---not as a coach either so maybe it isn't, still classic though--- Mike Milbury--He is well known for an incident in which he went into the stands and beat a fan with a shoe. On December 23, 1979, in a game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, Milbury followed his teammates into the stands for a brawl and ended up with a shoe in hand. He used the shoe to beat a Ranger fan.

Too numerous to say...Tie Domi as an individual player who pulled a guy into the penalty box...The Boston Bruins for climbing the boards...and the Chiefs for that matter...many more I can't recall right now.

Toe Blake did it at least once, don't recall a suspension.

Punch Imlach did it at least once, don't recall him getting suspended either.

Many Many players have attacked fans. The most memorable being Don Saleski, Mel Bridgeman, Joe Watson, and Bob Kelly in a playoff game in Toronto in 1976............all 4 ended up at 12th division that night....and in a Toronto courtroom that summer.

You should have asked this before my Alzheimer's set in. I don't think it was me, though.
I remember Domi getting into it with a Philly fan who dumped his beer on him. There are other instances of fans and players getting into it, don't recall any with coaches, off hand.
